Just wondering here. What was the differance between the early 150 JonRude(90-93) and the later ones. I have heard and read some about the early ones being hotter motors. I know of a couple of people that took their earlier ones back to the dealer and after the motors were not near as strong. I had a 94 FastStrike that was a strong motor. I do know these are some very good motors.

1991 FASTRIKE 150 -- HEADS-CRANK SHAFT -FLYWHEEL--PISTON CHANGED RING AND LAN HEIGHT IN 1992-.. WHEN i HAD THE CRANK TO BREAK IN MY 1992, i PURCHASED A COMPLETE CRATE ENIGNE WHICH WAS EARLY 1991. BOLTED RIGHT ON. i RAN IT COUPLE YEARS AND LOST A CYLNDER DUE TO STUCK RING IT DAMAGED THE BLOCK , SO i WAS GOING TO TAKE BOTH AND MAKE ON... COULD NOT USE 91 IN 92 CRANK/FLYWHEEL OR PISTONS.WAS LUCK ENOUGH TO PURCHASE GOOD CRANK AND RODS FROM ROOSTERTAIL bbc member IN fL AND PUT THE ORIGNAL 1992 BACK ON THE BOAT. THE BEST i CAN FIND THE SO CALLED HOT ENGINES ONLY HAD DIFF HEADS AND WERE ONLY 91 & EARLY 92 MODELS. i HAVE BOTH SETS AND CAN NOT SEE any difference except the 91 model didnot have water psi port drilled & diff part number. so I had the 92 milled .040 mainly to true them up.....
There was so customer heads worke by Monty's Racing that was suppose to make the 60 degree engine walk the dog but I have not been able to find any in the 4 years of looking only thing I can find is articles about them.

I have a 93 150 Fastrike with one of Monty's powerheads and it makes my Javelin 379 a LOT of fun to drive! He does excellent work and he really know the Johnson/Evinrude engines

I have a 91 same model number as yours and it is one of the hot ones or so I've been told don't know something about the heads it never went back to the dealer because when they did it never ran the same so I'm told. mine is like tin bear no 150 can stay with me out of the hole and the only going by me are 200's or more maybe something to do with the hull also but she runs great??

Mine has a small problem that we are working on. When it is running right I am very pleased with it. Would not change anything after we get it fixed
Were the 91 175 strong also?
Yes both motors in that class were approx 15-20 hp higher than their designated numbers. But ONLY the GL class.
