Ive seen them in there...the small ones sometimes get mistaken for shad..was idling thru a no wake zone awhile back and loaded the boat with about 50 of them all about a ft long![]()

Had some guys working on my dock this week. They had one jump in their work boat the other day. 23" long...on Barkley Lake. I don't think that fish will be jumping anymore.![]()
Doesn't surprise me. I had one jump across the back of my boat in Smith Bay two summers ago. Was fishing the grass - hit the trolling motor and I guess it scared him. He flew a good 3 ft in the air and cleared the back deck. It was a little one, maybe a pound and a half.
Also had one about knock me down this past duck season in Fords Bay on Barkley. I was wading in about 3 ft of water, setting decoys in the dark, had stopped to untangle the line on one, took a step and I guess spooked it. It came flying up right next to me and about knocked me over into the frigid water - scared the absolute crap out of me! Had a couple other mornings where they were jumping around in there while running the boat. Some of them were massive!
They're definitely in there, and have been for quite a while.
I had a fish about 16-18" bounce off the cowling on the OB in May when I was idling around marking a log on a point. I assume it was an Asian Carp. I'd hate to have one come up in front of the boat while I was moving fast.

nothing else matters.
They are that big and bigger in there.
Have been for several years now.
The commercial fishermen catch thousands of pounds of them in their nets.
Don't they pretty well only jump when in shallow waters? Seems like anytime someone encounters them jumping, it's fairly shallow, like 4 ft or less. Kind of like they want to escape in a hurry, but it's too shallow to go down...so they go up!
Not sure about that.
I think they jump whenever they are startled, wherever that may be. They jump below both dams and that is some deep water.
Yep, there was an article and picture in the Paducah Sun. Two young boys caught it off the dock at Lakeside campground. The paper said it was caught on 10lb line and took nearly 2hrs to land.

Nope I have had them flying in the channel on Barkley, I heard the carp-o-whatever tourn just recently held had lots of them weighed in![]()

Guys, these fish have been in the lakes for a while now. Unfortunately they are maturing in size and becoming much more noticable. As youngsters, they look alot like and are mistaken for shad. Its only gonna get worse. They reproduce extremely fast. Not good news I know, but its the sad truth. There was a 69lber taken by a bowfisherman a couple weeks ago. Normally, they are taken on the tailwaters. This hog was taken on the lake.![]()

Some one needs to delcare them a Delicacy. They will then be over fished in a year or 2.![]()

Declared! Now go get 'em.![]()
They are a delicacy in China, so it seems like somebody would give it a try. I wish they hadn't been introduced here, but it's too late. Now they need to be dealt with. It probably won't be long before they are in the Great Lakes, if they aren't already.![]()

I was watching a show on them and they were selling out in the fish markets in the Asian fish markets here. Looks like they could at least net them for cat food.

There's got to be a market for them somehow. I wonder if they were targeted commercially if they could be knocked down in numbers?
