If you had $250 to spend on a new spinning outfit what rod & reel would you get? I'm wanting to buy something that will work for a number of applications. Brand doesnt matter.

My favorite spinning outfit that I own is a Sahara 3000 and Falcon Cara 7'M. There are many good choices out there and you have to choose what will work best for you. I can use this rod\reel for dragging tubes at Erie or throwing a shakey head at the OH river and it feels like the right action for both.

I wouldn't spend the $250. I would buy a Crucial and a Sahara 3500 and be done with it.
I agree with Mike. I have a shimano 3500(I think that's what is) and a 7' M Bass Pro rod and only spent 110.00. I throw tubes with it, jerkbaits and 1/4 jigs and that rod and reel combo has handle the 5 lb smallies no problem.

+1...i love all my b.westmoreland signature rods for spinner rods.No need to spend 250 maybe on it all and alot of new jigs and tackle to use with it![]()
I would splurge a little more if it were me.
If you are looking to throw mostly light tackle on it, I would go with the All Pro Small Mouth Series rod in a 7'3" or the Loomis Bronzebak in 7'7" or 7'4" and I would put a Stradic on it. You can get that combo for around $300 and I promise you that you'll love it. I fish spin tackle 90% of the time from Oct. - April and that is what I've found to be my favorite set up.
Let us know what you decide to go with.![]()
I would buy ANYTHING with that money EXCEPT a spinning reel/rod!!!!!!

Only reason I'm buying a new setup is my old Abu Garcia Cardinal(old green one) finally broke on me.

Paul...I still have 3 Zebco Cardinal 4's and one of them is NIB!!!!
Pflueger Trion GX-7 Combo - $59.99

That's the combo I would get, or maybe bump up to the Medalist reel combo for $99 or up to the President for $129 if you wanted to burn more money.
I've never been a fan of buying combos though - usually because I'm not a fan of the rod offered or they don't ever have the rod length or action in stock that goes with the reel. I normally buy the reel and rod separate. I've been wanting to try that St. Croix Mojo, have heard good things about it and has a 5 yr warranty.
It's just really hard to beat the quality and price of a Pflueger spinning reel. I've had three of them now for over 5 years, and they're still as smooth as the day they came from the store.
I agree Scott...Pflueger does make a good spinning reel. I have one that I've used for 4 years now with no issues other than me buying the wrong size. It's a lil to big for my likes. I have the President and it's nice!
stradic and a cumara is my number one choice. However, if $250 is all you want to pend Id get a Bass pro pro qualifier and a carbolite rod!!! Bothy excellent pieces of equiptment. I do have a $289 Esox & med Id sell for $100 if you are interested.
Ill even deliver it.
I'd buy another Shimano Spirex and a good rod, half the money, and be done with it. I've had a couple Spirex for years and am most satisfied.
