I have a 83 150 evinrude its stalling (dying and not getting full power) when shifted into forward gear. I can put in reverse and its has full power. after about 15 tries or about 15min it sometimes acts alittle better but not alot. it will run on muffs no problem. I have one cylinder with low compression but it ran better once with the compression the same as it is now.

What are the compression readings? Does it die as soon as you shift into forward or does it try to run a little? I've seen these motors start up and run on one bank of cylinders, back off the trailer and then not run in forward. Bad power pack, no fire on one bank. It would run on the muffs with no exhaust back pressure, and with the noise you might not hear that it doesn't sound, what I call, "Throaty" or making the good power sound. Check for spark.
80 on all but one which is like 70 I think. I know it needs a rebuild but i still want to figure out my other problem which i think is electrical. most of the time it does die when i shift if it does stay running it's pretty rough. I will go buy a spark tester and check the spark. I was trying to do some test on the power packs and stator and ignition coils with my volt meter, but the manual uses special items that i dont have and I figure I could use a volt meter to test all of these items. sorry for lengthy write up.
Once you get the running issues worked out, a good decarb could bring those compression #'s up some.
How do your plugs look on each bank? One side wet and the other side dry like it's been firing?

I will do that.
I will check the spark plugs champion tomorrow. I'm going to do a spark test on it and when ever I get my peak voltage adapter built I'm going to test how much voltage im getting to each cylinder. I really hoping its not in the stator because I hate pulling the flywheel.
