    Fort Madison was a bust

I drove 7 hours Wednesday to Fort Madison for the Bfl reginoal.
Day 1 50 deg, rain hard all day 30+mph NW winds, I was froze solid and soaked to the bone by 8:00, only to catch 4..8 inch long smallies
Day 2 40 deg, some rain, 40+ mph SE winds 7 to 8 ft rollers, speared a wave on take off got soaked, shared the same 100 yard streach of bank with 5 other boats ALL day long.
Over all I was wet, cold, rocking up and down all day and managed to get 2 big goose eggs for two days of fishing.

I'm going to quote a cubs fan and say.................... Theres always next year

I noticed that Scotty did about the same thing along with some other great fisherman, John Wright for one.

    You can say that again.
I will say that the town was nice and the people there were great, also the people organizing parking as well as loading and unloading were great. that part went smooth, but everything else sucked.

It really is a shame you guys couldn't have hit that pool before the flood. Pool 19 WAS phenomenal. An absolute blast to fish. The flood of 2008 killed all the eel grass and generally destroyed that pool. I know the eel grass being eliminated was devastating but after seeing all the poor weigh ins this year I'm believing it did some other damage too. Maybe pollution from all the towns being flooded after levee breaks? Who knows. But that pool was a blast to fish. It will be a long time but it will recover.... hopefully

Sounds about right. I hit up the first LBL BFL tournament and did well in it - probably could have made it to regionals...but I saw where the regional was at and passed on the remaining season for that reason. I have yet to hear of anything good about Ft. Madison, especially in the fall!

Sounds like a trip you won't soon forget...no matter how hard you try!
