    New to KY lake

Just moved into the area. I run a Champion 203 elite and live real near to KY dam marina. This lake is so huge that I would like to get to know the top end of it before I venture further. How is sled creek this time of the year? I also saw a lot of boats fishing the canal. I assume that is a decent spot. I do not tourney fish, just fish usually one day during the week. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Do yourself a favor and take a trip with Dave Stewart. He'll show you whatever end of the lake you want and will speed up the learning curve tremendously.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Dave is the man on those lakes.

Agree with the others and will add, this time of year especially make sure you run the buoys. Plenty of shallow areas that can reach out and grab you this time of year.

Dave Stewart will teach you more about this lake in one day, than you can learn by yourself in a year.

He can do a lake familiarization trip, that might save you a lower unit this time of year.

Not sure I need to say it again...but I do agree with the others. Dave is the man on Ky Lake. I've only been out with Dave once, but it was worth every penny. If I lived up there or near there...I would be going out with him at least once a year. I've fished all my life and I'm an old fart. The one day with Dave, I learned so much stuff it was unreal, not just about Ky Lake, but about fishing in general.

Re: New to KY lake (billius)

Just an FYI I did a trip with Dave on Ky Lake and Barkley Lake when I first moved to the area and it really opened up my eyes to what the southern part of the lakes offered. I am on the lake every single weekend and I still believe that by taking those trips I saved years of wondering the lake trying to figure them out on my own.

Hey, Billy, I was just checking out your website. Pretty cool. Saw on there where it says you are a professional angler. Which tour did you fish this year and how'd you do? Pretty aweseome to have someone with your insight here on the boards. Anyway, good luck man.

Re: New to KY lake (jeeps)

    Welcome to the lake.
I've been here for about 3 years now and know it can be overwelming. I'm always looking for another person to fish with. I usually fish 2-4 days a week and stay mostly north of the 68 bridge. Sledd is a good bay but it does get a lot of pressure.
North Barkley has some very good bays just east of the canal on the LBL side and there are several good bays on the LBL side of Ky Lake. Drop me a reply if you want to get out.

Re: New to KY lake (stully)

Professional is more of a self awarded title really meaning I donate a ton of my salary to fishing tournaments in hopes of someday actually turning a profit. I had plans of moving over to the BASS Open series this year however due to being laid off last year for a couple of months my safety net kind of collapsed. Now that I got my wife through nursing school I am working to build that back up and will just fish the BFL until I get some things paid off. Also totaled my truck last year so another car payment is not helping the cause.

I do have to say that moving down to the lake has really made a difference as I can get out every single weekend.
