    New Law

As much as I hate rites taken away how many would like to see this law in Ky. as it is in Ca.
A red or orange 12 inch square flag must be hoisted to indicate a downed skier or a skier preparing to ski, or to indicate that a ski or ski rope is in the water in the vicinity of the vessel.

Sue and I where out today for about 4 hrs, and could not believe all the boat traffic...STILL.
There is no way to tell when someone is in the water or not, SO I feel this would be a real good law, so you had an idea if someone was in the water near the boat or not.

Of course this is not going to help with the morons driving not paying attention to what is going on around them and zig zagging all over the place and you trying to figure out what direction they are going to go

Just a thought sense I did grow up in Ca and we did use a red flag when someone was down in the water or getting ready to ski.

Just would give others a heads up that there is someone down in the water ahead of you and not having to wonder.

Now zig zagging jet skis are another matter

sounds like a good law to me...what i dont understand is the other night i was fishing a friday night tournament at taylorsville, it was about 1015 and we were headin back to the ramp, i was just kinda cruisin back in bout 40-45 mph and i look up and there is a boat in the middle of the lake without any lights on, i was able to steer clear of it, but when we went by it was a freakin police boat i can understand that they might have been trying to catch people with their lights off running, but y sit in the middle of the lake without theirs on? didnt seem right to me...if i hadnt seen it i woulda plowed right over it

Makes sense, at least for the very inteligent law abiding water patrol on Barren

I went by a boat last night towing a skier what I didn't notice right off was the guy they had dropped in the middle of the lake away from their boat. They were still pulling the other guy, with the one they dropped 100 yards from the boat. Couldn't believe how stupid some people are. Hard to see just a head sticking above water.

Last summer, we were on Kentucky Lake night fishing and a boat was pulling skiers at 10:00pm. Isn't there a law about that?

This won't help the idiots that feel they need to get right out in the middle of the channel and ski, tube or whatever else they do. The ones that would use it would be the ones that act sensible now which are far and few between. The rest would be as annoying as they currently are.

As far as enforcing, which would you rather have the water patrol going after, downed skiers with no warning or drinking boaters. I'm glad to see on KY and Barkley they are cracking down on the drinkers. A lady I work with said she watched them haul about 30 people off the water and straight to jail last weekend down there.

It's a great idea but I don't know how much effect it will have. I used to be on a heavy rescue and underwater recovery team in Northern Ky, and I have had idiots use the diver down flags for slalom courses. We had 4 diver flags out, marking the corners of the recovery operation with the boat in the middle with a dive flag flying, red lights flashing and they still ran through the work area.

I agree trying to run over someone on the lake is really tough a nice flag would give me a bigger target.

Next tournament 7am-3pm who can bring back the most flags!!! Jet Skiers should get a special flag that would be a bonus to bring in if you take one of them out.
