    Boat Warranty Questions?

I gotta list of things that have happened over the last two years to my boat and trailer; are these issues usually covered under your typical warranty on a new boat purchased in the last two years?

    1. Cranking Battery went dead
    2. Guages PSI and TRim guage stopped working
    3. TM Minkota Maxxum power loss, I can peg it on 5 and it doesn't pull the boat around like it should
    4. Rust on trailer fenders, I can see it forming under the paint
    5. park light out
    6. yamaha bogs down on take off... if it doesn't she pops up and eats no problems
    7. good year marathons dry rotted and split

Tires and batteries normally aren't warranted by the boat manufacturer , but by the OEM. Rust and lights bulbs aren't warranted at all. Warranty coverage on the other stuff would depend on maintenance and the cause. The TM issue is probably batteries.

who should I contact the dealer or the manufacturer?

should I expect 2yr old tires to just dry rot and split? They might have 3000 miles on them...

Batteries for the TM have been tested and they are supposed to be good full charge. cranking battery is a different story... wll not take a charge battery charger doesn't even recognize its hooked up.

Two issues with the TM batteries: First, dealers will put the cheapest batteries that they can get away with in new boats. They are usually badly undersized and won't last long. TM batteries can fail hard and will fail a load test, but they typically just fade away and will still pass a test but won't last on the water. Once a battery gets so dead, an onboard charger won't charge it. You have to hook up a portable charger for a while to get a partial charge on it. If you aren't charging them every 30 days at least, 2 years is about all you'll get out of a battery.

Tires aren't going to be warranted against sun exposure, which is about the only thing that will damage them that quickly.

Jef, you need to take the issues up with your dealer that you bought the boat from instead on here on the BBC He should be able to answer all your questions and should take good care of you. That is part of your dealers job when he sells you a boat, take care of that customer.

I was just anxious to see if anyone had prior experiences to issues like these since they are rather common occurances. I did make that call and the dealer referred me to an American trailer company for the rust, the tire company for the marathons, and the batteries are... well the interstates are dead and not covered after one year.

Bring the boat by and we will look at the guages and motor.
