I have seen several this year on Barkley. I just hope they don't ruin the fishing.

Will the dept of fish and wildlife try to do anything about it? Is there anything they can do?

Seems like if ya'll know where they are stacked up or most commonly seen, then the DNR can go in that area with a shock boat and start trying to get them out. Or is it just a losing battle?

It's a losing battle. Up here they are everywhere. There are two main types the silver and the bighead. The bighead can get up to 100 pounds, and the silvers I've shot average from 2 to 15 pounds. It's amazing how fast these things have spread. Where I shoot them (with my bow), a river off the Mississippi River, it is endless action. When we had the flooding up here, there was just school after school of them. I would see thousands of them. If someone saw one 5 years ago on Kentucky Lake, I would say they are already pretty well established.

How will it effect the other fish? They don't eat bait fish, crawfish etc.. do they? Will the effect the vegetation that dramtically?

Sorry if these are dumb questions...Just don't really know or understand the full ramifications of some dumb chit thinking its a good idea to introduce a worthless fish!

they devour the plankton population and that is the beginning to the circle of life in water.

Right they devour the plankton which in turn depletes oxygen in shallow water, those damn things have jacked up almost all the oxbows down on the Mississippi river.

Yes, they are plankton feeders, and they should change the phrase, "F&#% like rabbits" to "F&#% like asian carp." I don't think they were let go on purpose. From what I know, fish farmers used to use them to control algae. To put it simple, the flood of 1993 came along, and there were some fish farms that got flooded, and now you have the problem.

Swam up the mississippi from the ponds they lived in - In Missouri back in the flood of 1993.....then made it up the ohio, and then up the Tennessee and Cumberland Rivers.......A few years back, the lock chambers below the dams were packed full of them. The discharge is even worse. You can watch them jump all day long below Barkley in the corner w/ #1 turbine
