Usually there's a bunch of milfoil but not much this year. i assume you're staying at Defeated. Run back into the creek and fish around the 2 bridges back in there. Flip the docks around Defeated Marina. Other than that I like to run to Granville and fish some stuff up there. The water's usually pretty clear down by Defeated. All the little pockets on the left of the channel up from Defeated usually hold fish when there's grass but don't know about this year. Not many people fish CH and you will be surprised at the amount of boat traffic, or actually the lack of it. It's a very nice place to fish in the summer. You can catch kentucky's on the rocky points down toward the dam from Defeated sometimes.
oh and you prob won't get much info. Most people hate it and stay away. Plus there aren't many tournaments on it![]()
Yes we are staying at defeated. Thanks for the info we are looking forward to haveing alot of fun with the kids, the guy we are camping with has been jug fishing for cats and having good luck. I am going to try to do some bass fishing while I am down there. I read where they have alot of rock fish down there I might try to hook up on one of those if I can figure out how to.![]()
For the rockfish: pull the boat aroud to Carthage and put in the river right there in town below the bridge. Catch some big shad at the mouth of the Caney Fork River with a cast net and then run downstream a mile or so and fish the right side. Then rig on a big circle hook and pull out about 8-10' of line, put on a planer board that will run the bait up next to the bank, under the trees. Hold on to your rod real tight and you better use a big rod and 65# braid too, there's freaking hawgs in there. I mean 50lbrs. They're slick too, first thing they'll do is run up near the bank and hang you up. I have a buddy that fishes up there for them a lot. This is the perfect time of year for that. better get there real early though it don't last long
The lakes nice though. It's a good place to go in the middle of the summer. I thought that maybe I might go up there and fish Sunday and fish to get away from some of the morons around here.
Thanks for the rockfish info. I might have to go back in a few weeks and try that out it sounds like a lot of fun. I have never fished with a planer board sounds like a good reason to go to bass pro and spend some money...![]()
We camp up there at Defeated alot. I take the boat up there to the campground. Follow Fiddlefarter's advice and you'll bring some fish to the boat. Agree with his assessment.![]()
