you are looking at a hump on top of a drop I think. Where the dark blue in the middle gets real close together indicates shallow water (hump) then off to the left where it gets dark indicates a drop.

where is the boat positioned in this pic or is it even with the line and everything you see is on its sides?
its vertical right down the line through the center. You have to stand up and visually look down at the water and kind of phase out the dark blue line in the middle of the screen to see what you are looking at until you get the hang of it.

What kind of graph were you using.
So.........The bank is to the right, open water to the left with the boat in 12 ft. Is that a ledge/steep drop on the left? I'm guessing the hump is causing the shadow on the right?
for once i have to say kyle is right. my first look at the photo was a hump near a drop, and yes the boat position is the line going up the center of the screen..
