    Lake Barkley (The stepchild)

Anyone heard of fish being caught on Barkley besides all the way up North? I haven't been on there but twice this year due to KY lake being so hot. The water is really dirty down south with a ton of floating debri on the river.

    Re: Lake Barkley (piercembp)

I fished it really hard getting ready for the weekend series but its just been too dirty and too cold. I have talked with some guys that have been fishing up on the northern parts and 3-5lbers have been caught. Not sure what the recent warmer weather has done though.

Do you think it's actually going to raise Ky and Barkley all that much from the big rains? From what I see, it looks like the worst of it slid up north of the Tennessee River and Cumberland River watersheds...

To me, it looks like the Ohio will get the worst of it...

    Re: Lake Barkley (artcarney_agr)

KY and barkley are still getting a lot of inflow from last week. I expect them to have to slow the outflow with the ohio being at flood stage. So yes, the twins should come up by the weekend. As far as barkley, I haven't heard anything any good from kuttawa down. Still about 2 weeks out.

The lakes aren't going down anytime soon and it has nothing to do with how much water we got last night. Apparently the Ohio is so high right now that the Corps is holding water back at KY and Barkley dams. Even if the lakes were getting an inflow of 150,000 cfs the Corps could drop the level pretty darn quick. Like I said earlier, the water level in the big lakes right now is being dictated by the Ohio. I guess that's why they call them "flood control lakes".

Well all righty then! It should be a great weekend! The forecast looks great for Friday and Saturday! Sunny and temps in the 60s! Might be a little windy on Friday, but with the high of 67 warming the churned up water, we should see fast water temp gains! Man I can't wait!

Oh yeah, almost forgot...there's a full moon Friday! Maybe the stars will align too and I'll actually catch some for once in that dang Jet-A tournament!

Buzzking, you won't do any smackdown this weekend. I am ready to put on a fish catching, big bag at the weigh-in Sat.

    Levels

TVA site shows them maintaining both flow and level on Kentucky. Sure looks like it would go up more with the inflow almost double the outflow.

    Inflow Elev Outflow
    3/19/2008 136,500 361.00 69,000
    3/20/2008 88,700 361.10 68,000
    3/21/2008 78,600 361.00 68,000

Barkley's discharging about 55,000cfs too, but they don't list the inflow.

    Re: Levels (CatFan)

It will suprise me if they keep letting 70K out through the weekend, I think the ohio is supposed to crest here sometime sunday, I wouldn't be suprised for that 70K out to be dropped to 40-50 by tomorrow since the TN river basin didn't get as much rain. I'd say early next week it may be 363 or so.

Temps in the 60s?? Forecast i saw this morning said highs in the mid 40s. I'm fishing a tourney out of Bumpus Mills and will probably be running north as long as there isn't too much junk in the channel. fat chance on that.

I'll be prefishing Barkley on Friday to see if I can actually catch something there. I know where the fish are on KY lake so if we change to KY for our tournament I'm not worried. If I wasn't fishing this damn club tourny I'd be whoopin up on some folks in the Jet-A.

I was on north Barkley on Monday...it was clear and fish were biting. Not sure what it looks like now after the rain. New Flood Warnings out for the Ohio River today...went from minor flood warning to major flood warning, especially from above Paducah down stream...don't be surprised if the lakes start rising.

    Re: Lake Barkley (Dave Stewart)

If it does get high (wind) I would rather it be a W NW than a straight N or S. I really hope we abandon Lick creek on Barkley. I'm certain it's a mess that far south.
