rebel prop on ficht info needed

I have been refurbishing a 23' profile and gettting ready to intall my 2004' 250hp Ram Direct Injection Ficht motor. I have been reading a lot of the info on rebel props about the better economy and midrange performance, just what I need on my offshore rig. However I went to dealer to get him to order a rebel and he insist I do not want a rebel prop. He said it is strickly designed for the LU configuration of the ETEC motors and will not perform well on my Ficht. Is this indeed the case or is he just trying to unload a prop already in stock rather than ordering the rebel?

Wow, hadn't heard that excuse before.

Your motor uses the Magnum gearcase which was also used in earlier V6 E-TECs until the very similar Magnum 2 gearcase came out. The M2 gearcase has extra water inlet holes on the very front of the bullet nose.

Propping is trial and error and sometimes one prop will not work as well as another on a similar boat. The Rebel is a great prop for cruise speed economy and holding in rough water compared to the popular Viper series, and it is designed for the heavier off-shore style boat. Give it a try, normally you will use 1" or 2" size smaller pitch than Viper series props.

In Panama City FL the only etec dealer also handles suzuki and yamaha. The only way he will sell an Etec is if he can not talk the customer out of it. If you go there looking for an OB he will trash the Etec and push the Japanese motors. I have no idea why BRP keeps him as a dealer.

Is there any online stores or dealers who have a loaner prop plan where a person can try various props the see which one performs the best? I realize I would be obigated to buy from the dealer and that is not an issue, it would be better than buying a new prop and having to try and re-sell it or have it adjusted. We have a local prop shop who will let you try different props until you find the best performing one for your application. However he does not carry any OMC/BRP props other than the Michigan and Solas props.

Seahorse, the boat originally had a 225 ocean runner with a 17pitch 15" diameter prop and would turn 5800-6000rpm. The hull weight of the boat was 3850lbs. I am lessening the weight of the boat by about 300lbs by replacing the rotten wood with light weight composite boards. I will be using the boat mainly for diving so it will always have a pretty substanial load. Do you think I need to try a 15 pitch in the rebel or go with a 17?

With that type of use, try the 15 Rebel.
