Eddie,
Thanks for all of the information you have been posting, it has been very helpful. I still have another question. At what speeds does the lower unit with out a nose cone usually start blowing out or have a lot of prop slip? Roger

Roger, I wish I could help you with the answer to your question, but honestly, there are too many variables involved here to do it. I can tell you this.... Back in the day when the old 235 was first produced, they had a gearcase that was @ 1" shorter than they are today. My 'ole Hydrostream Vector (640 pounds) would blowout at 79 M.P.H. right on the money and take you for quiet a ride!!!!! Engine height, distance motor is from the transom, weight distribution among other things are prone to have an effect on this problem, not to mention prop design and how the motor is hung on the boat. Blowout is a serious problem that has to be worked out one boat at a time. Sorry to not be able to shine more light for you, but that's a tough one. Anyway, thanks for your kind comments.![]()
Comments are well deserved. I thank you for at least responding and giving a honest answer.

Thank you, you're very welcome. Although it's impossible to give a specific answer to this question, I can, however, tell you how to eliminate or at least alleviate, the problem of blowout, should you ever experience it. A blowout ring added to the trailing edge of the case will usually do the trick, or building up the last quarter inch of the outside perimeter of the round part of the case @ 1/8" thick will do the job. You can do this with automotive bondo or Belzona cold weld. They both seem to be adequate.![]()
Thanks! I will file this one away just in case.
