Transom saver use with Etec H.O. ?

    I just bought a used 2010 Ranger Z520 with the Evinrude 250 Etec H.O.

The motor has the L2 "Lightning" lower unit.

When I asked the guy I bought it from told about a transom saver, he told me that the selling dealer told him not to use a transom saver from the motor to the back trailer roller. Told him only to use the lower support bracket on the motor to secure it. Both the Seller & I have been Yamaha guys for ever and have always used transom savers. He didn't install one, though he said he never felt right about it and he only trailers his boat 20 to 30 miles to the lake.

    Is this true?

Is it because of the L2 lower unit or are all Evinrudes this way?

Would another type transom saver work with the Evinrude?

Your motor's trailer bracket will work just fine. So will a transom saver. The choice is yours. With an Evinrude/Johnson motor the trailer bracket use is a Ford/Chevy thing. With the Hammers it is better to use a transom saver, I wouldn't want to use their bracket either.

I towed my 03 DI to Clarks Hill, 4.5 hours with no problems. I have been using the factory bracket for the last 3 years after a toter broke on me twice, no issues with the factory bracket.

I have logged thousands and thousands of towing miles using the factory motor brackett on 5 diffrent ETEC's in the last 6 years without a hint of a problem. My question would be is why would you want to use a transom saver, besides to wear the paint off your lower unit?
