how to increase the horse power...1993 Johnson 150

All you OMC guru's out there,
wht changes are involved with taking my motor up to higher horse power? Is it as simple as jets or carbs being swapped? Or will it take a different powerhead? the old girl still runs decent but I would like to get just a little more out of her.
I thought bout just going with a bigger motor, but the boat is only rated for a 185 horse motor.
Any info would sure be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Matt G.

let me say this a little differently.....what are the differences between the 1993 60^ 150 Hp motors and the 175 HP versions? I don't want to make the motor "unreliable" by going crazy on it, just wandering what it takes to get to the next level.
    Thanks

175-150= 25 HP that is the difference.

To make the extra 25 HP those wacky engineers at OMC decided they needed to increase the the size of the let 'em out ports too, remember a two stroke is only an air pump, so by increasing the inlet you need to increase the outlet. Meaning the exhaust port timing has been increased. So to change that you have to tear down the motor and open up the exhaust ports using a die grinder. One degree too much and you need a new block.
