    Jeep wiring help

I recently bought aJeep Rubicon which only had a 4 pin wiring harness. I replaced it with a a round 7 pin harness. I have all the lights working, but have no idea how to connect the blue brake wire and the purple backup wire. I currently have no brakes to back up my trailer. Any help will be geatly appreciated.

Do you have trailer brakes? If not, the blue wire is irrelevant. If so, the blue wire goes to the solenoid at the rear of the actuator mechanism on the trailer. I'm not certain about the purple wire, but I believe it's only used of you have backup lights on the trailer.

Is the Rubicon the new version of the old Jeep Wrangler? If it is, how heavy a rig are you towing and what is the twoing limit for the Jeep?

The Rubicon is an offroad package offered on the Wrangler. I used to tow my HS with a 96 Wrangler, pulled fine, stopping was a different story. Had to make sure I started braking a little further out.

As for the wires, if you dont have brakes or back up lights, tuck them in and head on your way.

My trailer does have brakes, that is the problem. I have no idea where to hook up the blue brake wire? As of now I can't back up.

It will be hooked to the reverse lights on the Jeep.

Robert, my Wrangler has a trailer limit of 1500 pounds. Don't know what you're pulling, but most rigs with brakes are way over that. If the pulling Rubcion has the same towing rating, you should think long and hard about towing with it. Not a problem with the power train, plenty of capability, although sluggish on hills.

I have a V6 Wrangler, and pulled my bass rig twice. Second time out I had to make an emergency stop. Scary as hell, despite good trailer brakes. If I'd been on a curve, I'd probably have lost it.

Your call, but think about it.

    Re: Jeep wiring help (taeheel2az)

Maximum towing capacity is 3500 lb on the Unlimited which I have, and my boat weight is 1,630 lbs. It won't be my primary tow vehicle, but would like to use it when I fly home, and I don't want to use my wifes suburban. But you are correct, I have no idea if it will handle it, and do appreciate the advice!
