Trailer tire size?

I have ST215 / 75 R14's on my Ranger but I feel my truck is too deep when I launch/retrieve my boat. I have a Ford F150 Supercrew (2WD) with stock exhaust and when I put in or take out my exhaust is underwater so I am thinking of putting a smaller diameter tire on to lower the trailer height-any suggestions? What size can I get away with and still not create problems for myself? Thanks Scott

The smaller the tire, the less the load capacity they will carry. Even with the same load range. Smaller tires also spin more rpms per mile or more rpms at the same speed causing potential added bearing heat and wear.

I always try and go with the largest tire I can get away with... Your exhaust is fine under water as long as the motor is left running. Even with the motor off, the water cant travel up hill. Is your trailer level when hooked to your truck on level pavement? I measure the top of the trailer to the ground near the tongue and at the rear of the trailer to see if the trailer is paralell to the ground. You might need a different height hitch ball to achieve this. Normally 19-20 inchs to the top of the ball is real close to perfect.

The difference in the tire sizes that you are able to run on a 14" rim are so small you wouldn't be able to tell you were in the water a 1" farther.
