PROP!!!!!!!!

I am currently running a 24p Raker on a 86 Johnson GT 150 (J150STLCDC) at about 3 1/2 inches below pad. The most RPM's I can get is 5000-5100. A OMC mechanic told me to use a 23p Renegade 4 blade or a 22p Raker. Which prop would be better for this motor. It is on a 86 BassHawk 17 with a 6" jack plate. Also at 5000 it chine walks pretty bad.

What is your prop to pad distance? Measure from the very bottom of the boats' pad and save that number. Next measure from the ground to the center of the nose cone of the lower unit. Subtract that number from the pad measurement and that gives you the prop to pad distance. Need about 3.5" below pad. Need to keep your water pressure above 18 PSI at WOT.

You need to get those RPM's up to around 5800. The high speeds cut in around 5000 on your motor. You will also get a better hole shot. I think you would like the Renegade better than the Raker. The chine walk is something you will learn to drive around. Glad you got the motor running.

I cannot find a place to hook up a water pressure gauge on my 86 GT 150 (J150STLCDC). The only way to hook one up is at the pee stream hose with a T adapter. That will not give me a accurate reading of pressure. To be accurate in needs to be in the front where it enters the motor to be accurate. I talked to a gentleman who has worked on Johnson/Evinrude motors all his life and even raced them. Once had a 225 Evinrude that would turn 9500 RPM's, 118 mph on a Mirage. So I trust him.
He told there was no place to put it except the pee stream hose. Said if I put it there at WOT it might show 5lb of pressure-0lb at idle. So what I am I to do for a pressure gauge. Also upon inspection my 24 Raker had 2 bent blades.

I put many of them in the pee hose, didn't have a problem with getting good readings. It might be a little low at idle but running down the lake the preasure relieve valves open and you will get more water preasure and flow. I never woried about cooling if I had 15 to 18 pounds, 18 to 20 is better but all guages are not the same. Seems like we had a kit for the pee hose connection, maybe it came with the guage, might have had a restricter or something for the hose. I'm 10 years older than your Dad and the memory isn't what it used to be.
