Can You Splice into Backup lights on Car??

I want to add a surge brake solenoid energizer wire to a car that is not equipped from factory......Can I splice the solenoid in to the back up lights or would the amps that the solenoid pulls be too much for the little micro relay on the transmission that energizes the backup lights. I was thinking about changing the 4 wire flat plug to a 5 wire and adding the solenoid energizer wire for backing up......I was thinking about tying the added wire into the wiring going to the backup lights in the trunk...OK???

    Shouldn't be any problem.

I did it on my 1995 F150, worked just fine. I took out the tail light assy. and made the splice as close to the light socket as I could. Seal the splice good and you should be OK.
