I have a 1988 Ranger trailer w/o brakes. I took a guy fishing this past weekend and he jackknifed the trailer on the ramp with the truck tailgate down while backing down the ramp for me to load. The tailgate hit the winch handle. The tailgate was damaged a little. My question is the hitch and ball. Should there be a little play in the hitch/ ball? I noticed some only when coming to a complete stop on the way home. It may have been that way before and I just noticed because I was thinking about the situation on the way home. Should the hitch be tight on the ball with no movement? With unhooked form the truck, I can slide the lock mechanism a little. If you have a similar trailer as mine can you check your ? With the lock down as if it where hooked up can you slide a little? Thanks for your help.
