I had the motor trimmed down while working on the batteries, and the next morning I noticed oil under the prop area not more than 3" in diameter. What should I be looking at or is this expected?

Sniff the oil, If it smells like gas/oil then it is coming from the power head. If it smells like gear oil (stink) then the LU needs service.
I think I know the engine in question and believe it to be the lower unit.
What should be done to fix issue? Do you know a price idea???
Replace prop shaft seals and O ring on the rear bearing carrier. Fill LU if that is where you believe it to be coming from. ~$50.00 for parts and lube.
There is no gas smell, I believe it is the lower unit seals as mentioned before. Is it diffiucult replaceing these seals, does this need to be done by a mechanic? Thank you for the information.
If you've never done it before, or not mechanically inclined, I would prefer a pro. Gearcaseman, here on the boards can prolly beat any of the local prices...JMHO
