    3:42 gear ratio is terrible!!

Does anyone else have a chevy silverado with a 5.3 motor with 3:42 gears? My 2006 chevy z-71 has 3:42's and I have reflashed my ecm with a superchips and still it lugs with the a/c on. My old truck had a 350 with a 700r4 and 3:73's. I can't believe it still lugs coming up the boat ramp with a x19!

Pull it down a gear when you tow in hills. I prefer the 3.73's too and tow in OD w/o any lugging even on my 22 ft boat.

I feel you pain. My 93 F150 has 3.08s w/ a 4.9l 6cyl, 5 spd, 4x4 it isn't going anywhere quick towing or not. You can have them swapped for lower gears like I'm going to. Good luck.

I would for sure recommend having them changed for 4:11's on a stock or slightly over-sized tire, the only bad thing is it won't be cheep since you will have to do both the rear and front or else you will loose your 4x4. I have a 2005 Chevy 5.3L with 4:11's i get 17.5 mpg and it saves a lot of wear and tear on your transmission and motor.

I have the exact same truck. Pulling a 21' Triton, I for sure notice it back there in the hills. On open roads it pulls fine. No problem on boat ramps.

i would for sure go 4:10's at the most, not 4:56's that is way to much gear for that size tire. It would tow great but you wouldn't be able to hear yourself think over the rpm's at 70mph. lol!

Thats what Chevy does to get a good fuel milage out of a full size truck..The high gear will give you a good mpg but it's like dragging when towing.. Re gear to 4:10 or lower

I had that set up on my 05' gmc and i hated it. Before that I had a 00' gmc with 4.10's and that thing was awesome! I got rid of the 05' for a 08' with 3.73's much better especially if you use the tow/haul mode.
