    dealing with steep ramp

Does anyone have any tips for dealing with loading your boat on an especially steep ramp? My dad and I went out and fished an old strip mine for the first time today and the ramps seem like they just drop off in the water. When we went to load the boat, we couldn't get the bow of the boat up over the roller. We pulled the trailer up a little which brought the bow up, but now the trailer was too far out of the water and you couldn't crank the boat up with the winch. We finally had to back the trailer back in and I stood and bounced on the very back of the boat which brought the bow up enough to tighten it down. Any tips to help in the future. I really felt like a newb today even though we had loaded and unloaded several times I guess we just never really dealt with a really steep ramp before.

When you take it out like that you can not crank it, you have to power load it, then once you feel it butt down to the bow roller just latch it up. You may have to stay on the throttle a little unitl you get the crank cinched down.

If the ramp is really steep, you can sink the trailer, and just ease the bow up to the roller, latch it up, and then SLOWLY drive the trailer up under it.

You may have to refloat the boat (without disconnecting the bow strap to get it to sit correctly on the trailer if you drive out to fast.

Don't feel bad steep ramps are a challenge for loading and unloading, I agree with TRCM, I have been on a ramps I could not get the bow over the bow stop. I just hook the bow with the nose below the bow stop pull the trailer up and crank it. Once its under the bow I can lower the trailer again to get it snugged up.

I have a ramp near me thats like that but all you have to do it back the trailer in all the way so the bunks get soaked and the bring it out to how ever far you need it and just power load the boat.

Re: dealing with steep ramp (Bassfishingaddiction)

I thought about dunking the trailer all the way in and hoping it centered on the way out. We couldn't power load because it was a 10hp only lake and didn't want to take the chance of starting up the big motor with the DNR hanging around.
