Ouch .. managed to tear open a trailer wheel.

Last weekend we stopped at a place and I parked in a gravel parking lot. I pulled onto the edge into a grassy area. As we were leaving, I looked in my mirror and noticed a trailer tire was flat. No biggie, put on the spare, threw the trailer tire in the truck and off we went.

I saw on the flat tire what appeared to be a 2" gash in the sidewall on the outside. Saw some concrete near that grassy area and figured I must have caught an edge hidden in the grass.

Went to put a new tire on today and look what was found. MAJOR damage to the INSIDE of the rim that actually split the bead away ! The split in the tire is actually 180 degrees on the other side of the circle. Guys at Discount said more than likely whatever I hit put so much pressure on it that it blew out the tire. Whatever was buried in that grass got me good - lesson learned !!!

JMO,I'm sorry, that damage does not look like and is not likely to have happened in a parking lot. Looks much more like something that was a high speed impact. You should have felt a serious jolt at high speed or at least a very hard jerk at low speed.
The black rubber imbedded into the rim bead is signs of the high speed impact.

My trailer had virtually the same deal happen before I bought it. Guy hit a curb in a fast food parking lot. Just grazed it, but peeled back the rim. I used to have the old wheel, hoping I could get it welded, but $$$$$ if I could find somebody to try.

Larry the only time I felt anything was a little jar when I was in that parking lot .. NOTHING while driving and I'm pretty sensitive to anything my truck or boat does

If the aluminum rims are that soft then I would be looking for some steel mags.
