Trailer bearings - When to replace

What's your opinion on when to replace trailer bearings? I keep them greased throughout the year by just adding to the bearing buddy. Is there a timeline on how long they last? Just trying to avoid the ole end up on the side of the road when the bearing goes bad.

As long as the seals aren't leaking, you'll probably never wear them out. The same kind of bearings often last the life of a car.
If you have integrity, nothing else matters. If you don't have integrity,
    nothing else matters.

How do you check if the seals are leaking?

Do a visual inspection, make sure to look at the back of the wheel also..

look at the bearings. if they are rusted, pitted or show and uneven wear replace them. same with the races. neither are that expensive. if you replace one replace the other

Re: Trailer bearings - When to replace (calfish1)

Just to ad to catfish1; If the bearing or the race are blue, they have got too hot and need to be replaced. Also someone mentioned car bearings lasting the life of the car,Your right ,But run that car down the hiway get those bearings up to operating temp then back them into a( lake better yet into salt water)where the bearings are submerged like they are on a boat trailer 10 or 20 times a year and see how long they will last.Several things happen the bearings cool off (right now) creating a slight vacuum and can suck in a small amount of water.Thats where BUDDY BEARINGS seem to help .They keep a slight positive pressure on the bearing. The other problem in my salt water area the seals rust completly through or the lug bolts or nuts grow in place and you will twist them off trying to remove. And sometimes the wheel will rust to the hub so tight you'l have to ruin something to get them apart. So do your PM at least yearly .Twice a year if in salt water. It's pretty easy at home in your driveway...HELL ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH FEW TOOLS AND TRYING NOT TO GET RUN OVER !!!!!!!!
