I added hydraulic surge drum brakes to a single axle Shorelandr trailer. Pretty easy...as long as your axle has square mounting brackets welded on behind the spindle to mount the drum to. The kits from the trailer supply places come with a surge coupler, 2 drums, and brake lines. Easy install. Be best to replace your bearings and races when you do it...if your spindles are worn or in need of repair, I'd just order a new axle too. Get galvanized if you order a new axle. I replaced the axle after I added brakes.
