    Astro Van as tow vehicle

I was wondering if anyone on here has a Chevrolet Astro Van as their tow vehicle.
A family member has one that i can get my hands on cheap. Its the v6 vortec, awd.
It would be towing my Stratos 285pro xl

Any information would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Re: Astro Van as tow vehicle (285Pro)

Yep, no problem. The hitch is only rated for 2000 lbs w/o weight distribution bars. The stock 3.08 gears will pull 5000 lbs and the 3.73's bump it uo to 6000. I have a safari with 3.73's and it does well.

Make sure it has a transmission cooler.

It will fry up quick if it doesn't.

I pull my rig occasionally with 2002, AWD Astro Van. It handles the boat a trailer just fine.

That goes for anything with an automatic!

I towed my Ranger for several years with my Astro. As stated, a tranny cooler is a must. Also, do not tow in overdrive. The motor will whine a bit with higher RPM's, and tend to run a bit hot, but that is normal for that combo. Also that V-6 has plenty of get up and go for your 285. They can be a bear to work on at times, due to the very limited access from the dog house or underneath, but I wouldn't hesitate a bit in grabbing one. I wish they still made them.

Ditto on wishin they still made them. Perfect vehicle for an outdoorsman and family man. Slept in mine several times off on hunting trips or fishing adventures. Wife used it as the kids taxi.
