    2005 Nissan X-Terra

    Hi there!
Looking to upgrade to a larger fibreglass bass boat.
Not too sure how big of a boat but would like to be in the 19 - 20' range.

Right now I have a smaller (17') aluminum boat with a 75 horse motor.

Will my X-Terra handle the larger fibreglass boat, motor and trailer combo? I know it will probably suck gas but that is the truck I have now!

Any thoughts or feedback is appreciated!

    Thank you

I would say no with 19-20 ft glass boat. A boat that big will out weigh the X-Terra. once you got it rolling the boat will push it all over the road. Plus I think the X-Terra with it's engine wouldn't have the power.

I wouldn't recommend it - you can get it to tow the boat but stopping and handling will not be as good as you need - my opinion.

Some of the boat companies now make different weight options for the same lenght boat. I know that Trtion used to offer a 18ft with two different weight options. I myself would look at a 17 footer. I think that your Nissan would pull a 17ft fiberglass boat just fine. I pulled a TR-176(17.5 Ft Triton w/115 Mercury) with a smaller truck that had a V6 motor just fine. I now have moved up in size on boat and truck. I would try to pair the two together as close as you can. Remember you boat will also be full of gear and fuel, which can make for hard times at the boat ramp. Good-luck on your choice.

Looks like your maximum tow capacity is 5000lbs and 500lb max tongue weight. That puts you at a class III hitch. As stated earlier pulling ok, handling and stopping might need to upgrade some parts to help out there.

I will be installing a transmission cooler soon. I figure no matter what I tow that would be a benefit.
What other options/upgrades would be required?
For sure the trailer would have surge brakes. I dont need to have a boat and trailer pushing me through red lights!
