Zero Maintenance Oil bath bears... are they worth it?

I'm having my bearings done this year simply because i haven't looked at them since purchasing the boat two years ago. The previous owner said he had just gotten them done (not sure if that meant repacked or what). Anyway, I only put on about 700 miles a year... if that. I'm told the oil bath one's require no maintenance ever... for a very long time. What would something like that cost for a dual axle? Is it worth it for only that amount of miles???

If you only put 700 miles a year, then I wouldn't think the oil bath hubs would be a good investment money wise. By the way, the no maintenance on the oil bath hubs is BS, there are maintenance on all hubs no matter what lubes them.

If they still require maintenance, then I will probably just have mine repacked if they're okay for that, or replaced if they're bad. I have never had trouble with my short runs to and from the launch, or my occasional 500 mile round trip (like once a year)... My only issue was I don't have bearing buddies to pump grease into them on a regular basis...

UFP oil hubs require the oil to be changed every 2 years....We do have a no maintence hub out now...The Vault, it is availible on some 08-09 models...

Lyn--Can these hubs be used on any of the older trailers or do they require something special that only comes on the trailers you have listed?

Sounds like I should let the kids repack them not worry about the oil baths, etc. I would say the 700 miles a year is max... Thanks for the input... I guess I should call you too, Lyn... about adding the bearing buddies....

You cannot convert to Vault unless you have the Bearing Lube style spindel that is drilled and tapped with the zerk on the end of the spindle....
