    Leaf Springs going bad? Ouch.

I just noticed a big chunk out of the gelcoat on the bottom of my boat about baseball sized. I was confused about how that happened until I saw it above the axle on my trailer. When the boat bounces the axle comes up and hits the boat on violent bumps. Does this mean I need new leaf springs or just a roller or bumper on the axle? How much have leaf springs cost on a 18 foot single axle trailer?

Ouch! It sounds like your leaf springs are weak. Does the boat bounce a lot when you tow it?

Leaf springs are easy to replace, especially if you don't have trailer brakes. If you go to 'www.easternmarine.com' you will find info to determine what size springs you have and what your options are for putting on a set of stronger springs. I had to do so on my trailer to prevent excessive bouncing and it was an easy job and eastern marine will ups them to your house (or you can drive to Newark, DE to pick them up.
