I have a 2004 F-150 5 speed manual shift. Whenever I tow my boat (18ft procraft f/s) should I shift up to 5th (OD) or just stay in 4th gear? Just concerned b/c I've heard that you can mess up a transmission by shifting into OD. Does this sound right?

Makes no difference with a manual tanny - that applies only to automatics. Tow in the gear your truck likes.

My Jeep Grand Cherokee (automatic trans) loves 4th gear, used to tow in over drive but with the continuous down shifts, I was avg'ing 12 mpg. Now when I stick with 4th gear I avg 14 mpg and no shifting
