My guess is a bare "hot" wire that has worn through the insulation and is rubbing against the frame.

I agree. Start at the tongue and work your way back on both sides to find the bare spot.
If you find that is the problem, the best bet is to replace the wiring harness with a cheap 14 gauge extention cord. The added insulation helps extend the life of the wires.

Yep... Look at the brown wire, Most likely where the wire goes through the frame for side marker lights...

I rigged up a continuity tester with a buzzer on it so it can be hooked up and you can "Wiggle" hidden wires and find the short fast.
I'd sure like to see a pic of that Jeff... Sounds like a great idea.

i give up it has no shorts all the holes where wires go have rubber grommets i can get no break in continuity on any wire rehook it and it will work drive it and when you get home it quits and was blowing the fuse. this last trip it just went off and didnt blow the fusemy dealer says it is the 7-5 adapter so he has a new one with a 2 foot wire to lessen the strain on the trailer connection. we'll see
A couple of ideas: One, make sure the fuse is the right size. An undersized one will sometimes work for quite a while and then go. Second, tune an AM radio to a spot with no station. Hold it while you jiggle wires and lights on the trailer with the lights on. Any loose connection or even a brief short that won't blow the fuse will cause static in the radio when you move it.
