Getting use to my new 2011 E-TEC 150

Took mama out fishing yesterday, the weather was horrible in my opinion. Mama was happy just to be out with her fishing pole in her hand. Tide was extremely high, water was rough choppy, and wind was high and cold. I had a tough time getting on plane and not going too fast. Once on plane the engine would seem to speed up on its own accord. I kept pulling back on the throttle and sometime too much and fall off plane. Once on plane around 2950 rpms @ 23 mph. @ 4.5 mpg. With the rain beating in my face it was a heck of a time trying to keep everything under control. I have to learn to control engine speed because it if much more touchy than my ole XP 150.

At any rate, I have only 5.4 hrs on the motor now and before opening to, too many criticisms. I am going to try to learn as much as I can about the operating characteristics of this engine.

If you can't run with the big dogs, just stay on the porch.

Did you splurge for a new control box? The cables that come with the new box are a night and day difference in smoothness.

No, I have the same old 2003 control box. As it seem to me after I move the throttle forward and reach a certain rpm level, stop at the point and hope the rpms will stay put. But, then the engine starts to increase speed and and when I start to pull back on the throttle I will ether pull back to far and loose speed to stay on plane.
When I get some decent weather/water to do more testing I will be able to just leave the throttle alone and see what happen. Time will tell, only five hours on the mota.
