    Talkin' Turkey

I am getting prepared for the season, and I'm ready to get back into the woods. Our season opens a week later than usual this year, it's March 26 but usually opens the third Saturday of the month (which would be the 19th).

What mouth calls do you use to talk turkey?

    Pot calls?

    Box calls?

I am about to order some more mouth calls. I will be using Tom Teasers from GA, Legacy premium from S.C., and XT Calls from PA. The XT stuff is custom shop stuff at better prices than the volume makers.

i make my own slates & stuff. mouth calls, i try and use what everybody else isn't, mainly a variety of woodhaven, knight & hale, legacy etc with a tweak here and there to make'em a tad more unique.

where around the atl area is there to get on birds??

Access has become harder due to population growth. I wouldn't bother with WMA's in N. GA unless in the mountains, and that will be a lot of scouting work. The WMA's in S. GA would likely be better. You may consider calling Piedmont NWR, kinda between Forsyth and Macon, and see if they have any left over permits for the draw hunts that you can buy. It is some nice ground, and that is one public area within 2 hours of Atlanta that I would bother to hunt.

The absolute best option in this state is to get on a hunting lease. I am on a lease in S. GA, it is further from Atlanta, less population/hunting pressure, and more birds per square mile. You can find leases in GON magazine, on Craig's List, Atlanta paper, internet search because many have websites now, etc.

Last week on Arnold Mill Road in Milton you could have reached out you car window and killed one...by hand.... They were stopping traffic and pecking car tires. Everyone was dailing 911... Have seen dozens in fields the last couple of weeks. Seen to nice males 1/2 mile from house (South Fulton) .....might try my hand at calling.
