    Freezer question

My chest freezer died, I am replacing it with an upright freezer. My question is this. The chest freezer lived in my basement which never gets below 40 degrees in the winter. I am thinking of putting the new upright freezer in my barn which has no heat so it will see temps well below zero at times this winter. I was wondering if this temp extreme can have a detrimental affect on the operation of the freezer at those temps? Thanks in advance for replies.

Your freezer will not operate correctly in the barn and you could possibly loose everything in it

    Re: Freezer question (Zpilot)

The colder temps can cause major problems while the freezer is running but at those temps the freezer will probably not even kick on till spring.
Cold temps if it is not set up for it with fan switches can cause the compressor to be flooded with refrigerant sludging the oil, washing the pistons, bearings and breaking the reeds & valves. Resulting in premature failure.
