    Hitting the woods!

I'm going to hit the woods for the first time this year. I've done no scouting, shot my bow a few times and still struggling to find all of my gear! SO..it should be a successful hunt!!!! Wish me luck!!!

Good luck. Scouting is overrated, if you know the area you hunt so you know the bedding areas they use you are ahead of the game. I haven't scouted for deer in years and I still get one most years, any years I don't it's because I held out for a larger deer that never came out

I just plant a 32 acre wheat field, put out protein pellets all year long, have 2 corn feeders going 5 months out of the year and pour corn all over the ground. Let them come to me... We don't do much hunting here in Texas, it's more like wildlife veiwing and selective harvesting....

Yes...been hunting this area for almost 20 years now so I have a pretty good idea where the deer like to run!! I do like the food plot idea..just have to make it look like I'm not feeding them!!!

Was a good night. Couldn't stay out in the woods long but managed to have a little excitiment. I left the 4 wheeler at the house and decided to walk into my spot. After putting on all my cold weather gear, Harness, fanny pack and hot seat I grabbed my bow and was off. Well...my stand is about a mile or so from the truck and after about 100 yards into the walk I decided to go to a closer stand. More deer activity there but not a good Bow stand. Finally treck my way down to the stand, get up in it and get settled in. I wasn't there 30 min and I hear this crashin' coming. Boy my heart was pounding. I quick look to my left and here come 4 bears....3 little ones and Momma. She maybe went 250 and the little ones 100 to 125. They hung around for about 10 min or so till one of the little ones broke a tree he was scratching his back on and they all ran off. all were well within 15yards. At one point one of the little ones came right up to the bottom of the tree and was looking up at me!!! What a way to enjoy the woods!!

Working on some pics and video...just have ot figure out how to get them to my e-mail then post them.......

    Cool video, Joe

You'll get a better close up shot if you string up a jelly donut necklace next time!

I had not bow hunted in 2 years. Thurs night I broke out the bow, shot 4 arrows (in the garage) as it was dark outside....still on at 15 yards. Purchased permit on line at 10 pm. Found clothing still crammed in tub in garage from Spring turkey season (smelled terrible!) hit the woods at 6:30am, shot a doe at 7:30am, dropped in 20 yards. no scouting, no scents, no bath, no prep........VERY LUCKY...will try again Wed afternoon.....however I did wash my clothes this time!

oyea, one other thing.....I passed on a dear at about 35 yards, I use to shoot out to that range when I practiced all the time, but on this trip I limited myself to a 15 yard shot.....got lucky and second doe walked right under me and I released at 10 yards.
