    1990 150XP Water Pump

It's been a couple years so it's time to change out the water pump on my 1990 150XP again. When I called up to make sure they had a pump they asked me if I wanted the regular water pump kit w/ housing or the chrome water pump kit.

What are the advantages of the chrome kit? Is that what I should have?

Also I went up to a 24P prop so I'm assuming to keep up in the 5600-5700 rpm range I'm going to need to raise my motor up some. What is the minimum water pressure I need to see at WOT? At idle?

Don't need the chrome kit unless you run salt water. Minimum pressure at WOT 18 psi at idle should be around 5 psi or so. Check your head temps with a temp gun or thermo stick just to make sure the stats are opening. Run the prop first and check the RPM's then make your move if needed.
It may be easier to get to the shift rod bolt if you pull the VRO assembly off the motor.

Thanks for the info, I'll get the standard pump and give the new prop a whirl once the water isn't stiff anymore.

What temp should the heads be to ensure the stats are opening?

Thanks mine runs around 120 what does that mean? I had it to the shop last year for the water pump replacement and they also said they replaced the thermo's.
