The last time I ran my boat my rpms went down from 5800 to 4800 WOT. I pushed the choke and and the engine bogged indicating ignition problems and not fuel issues. I thought I had a bad coil. I started my engine at night and saw sparks coming from the #3 coil. What I didn't realize or failed to mention is that this spark was only happening maybe once every 30 seconds or so. All the other plugs are getting much more spark. Got a new coil, cleaned grounds on motor, installed, still hard to get on plane and 4800 rpms. Every minute or so, the engine will hit on all 6.
In one of my earlier post, Fred mentioned that if the coil didn't fix my problem, I probably have timer base issues. Does this seem more likely now that a new coil didn't fix the situation.
Is this something that I can replace myself. I've replaced rectifiers, power packs, small stuff in the past.
I guess my question is: Do I just mark the position of the flywheel, remove it, replace timer base, reattach wires, replace flywheel in same spot, fire up and go....
Thanks guys,
