What type battery for occasional use?

I'm restoring a 1985 Yar Craft and will start working on the battery compartment. Should this area be ventilated if away form the fuel compartment? And what type battery would you reccommend for a part time fisherman, since battery prices range from mid price to expensive? Thanks for you suggestions.

Yes the compartment needs to be vented. And I use Everstarts mainly becausae there is always a Wal Mart nearby

Thanks, most marine deep cell are $100+ and don't think I will get to use the boat enough to justify the expense. See you at Wally World!

Its a 1985 Evinrude, 75 hsp. I'll be running a Hummingbird, starting the motor, and marine radio. I have a seperate battery for the trolling motor on the front but I will be using the Evinrude for trolling also.

Interstate group 24 Marine Starting Battery should be fine. I just Bought a Crown Battery. 800 CA, 1000 MCA. 120 reserve. Cost $100. I replaced my Everstart, It lasted 4 years.

+1 on Interstate......far superior to Everstart in my opinion.

go get the blue top optima from costco. sealed so you dont have to worry about acid spilling.
is this an i/o or outboard. if i/o you need a blower. if not you can add vents if needed
