I just bought my first boat besides a jon boat or canoe. It is an old 16' aluminum astro w/ a 60 hp mercury.
It does not have power trim (atleast I don't believe that it does) so how do I launch and trailer without draging the motor?

yup, there should be a metal latch that when you lift the motor up manually, you can swing down the little metal stand and it will rest on that up in the air. Not sure on your exact motor but there should also be an adjustable in and a lot of hole you can move the pin between to make the motor sit trimmed all the way down or up a little when the motor is down. One word of caution on towing with the motor up on just the motor locks though is that if the transom is not solid, it can damage it pretty easily. You might want to look into getting some type of transom saver. I have an old classic boat with a 60 hp motor with no tilt trim. I hate lifting that thing up manually, kills my back.
I do have a transom saver. I will check out the motor for the latch, I didn't see one but I really wasn't looking all that hard.
Had an old 40hp Merc. When you release it to put it on the toter, try lifting up as far as you can. It should lock in place until you launch/load. Then release to let back down
