What is required to safely start your boat out of the water? Have a 150VMax.

    Thanks

Water to the L/U pump/motor and "NO" Prop on the motor.

    One of these:

Just don't rev the motor very high, and don't leave it running for very long.

what is the difference between running it out of the water with the muffs mentioned in the post above [bps link] and hooking your garden hose directly to the motor.

i have a 150 optimax and it has a plug in the back of the motor up high that unscrews and accepts a garden hose.

I would like to know the answer to that too. If you dont have muffs can you hook a garden hose up to the backflush hole & start the motor out of the water?

    Re: motor (ch)

I may be wrong but I think the w/o the muffs your impeller will not have water going to it and ruin it. Hooking the hose directly to the motor is just for flushing.

as far as I've been told, that hose hook up does not provide any cooling. Basically it doesnt routwe the water to the right places. Again... this is what I have been told. Anyone have a reference source for this?

    Re: motor (Astro-T)

If you look on the Yammie boards, the 9th PINNED post deals with this. Apparently, it is ok to use the "garden hose" adapter on the engine with certain stipulations. Here is the link to the thread.http://www.bbcboards.net/zerothread?id=99872
    Hope this helps.

The garden hose attachment is just for flushing the motor. For example if you've been in salt water or very dirty water, etc. Do not start it with the garden hose attachment only, it will damage the impeller. Check your Merc owners manual, it's fully explained there.
