    Duel Pro Charger question

First boat so dumb question: I have a new 2006 Triton TR196 and it has a Duel Pro Charger. It has the two batteries(i'm assuming TM batteries) on one side and another battery(assuming the cranking) on the other side. Is the cranking battery hooked up to the Duel Pro Charger at all or am i just charging the TM batteries when i plug the Duel Pro in? Do I need to charge the cranking battery separately from a portable charger and is so how often?

i am not sure of your setup, but on my setup the dual pro is charging the TM with one set of leads and the other set is charging the cranking battery. you should be able to chase the leads from the charger to tell which battery they run too

    hope this helps

Brian my rig had the same setup as you. Yes the TM batteries are on the passenger side and the single battery is the cranking. The charger is likely only connected to the TM batteries. Just follow the cord from the charger to the batteries and that will tell you for sure.

Depending on how many electronics you run; 2 sonars, gps, radio, livewell pumps, etc, etc AND how much running you do with the big motor will determine how often the cranking batter needs recharging. If you run few electronics and do lots of running around it may never need charging. But if you're like most and the sonar is always on, the livewell pumps are running keeping the fish alive (hopefully you need to run them ) and you do more fishing than running around, the cranking battery may need charged after every trip.

Here's what I did since I already had a 2 bank for the TM batteries and didn't want to spend the money for a three bank charger and hooking up the portable charger is somewhat of a pain... I bought a 5a single bank charger (caught a BPS charger on sale for about $65) and installed for the cranking battery. Then wired the power cord in with the existing plug for the already installed 2 bank charger. That way I still only have one extension cord to plug in and it runs both chargers. Works great.

    Good luck,

thanks tom, that sounds like something i could handle and the most economical way to go. I will definitely look into doing something like you mentioned. Thanks again.

I think your setup is a little different. It sounds like you have a 12v trolling motor and it only runs off of one battery or you have a 24v trolling motor and you are using the cranking battery for the extra 12v.

Like the others said if you follow the charger leads they will both go to the TM batteries. You may also want to keep an eye out in the for sale area for a 3 bank charger. They pop up in there every once in a while. You could always buy a 3 bank and sell your two bank.

I had the same set up on my '05, I called Dual Pro and they took the 2 bank and gave me a 3 bank for about $100.

Re: Duel Pro Charger question (rctreece)

I have a 2 bank Dual Pro. I used to never need to charge my cranking battery until I installed a color sonar/GPS. Now I hook up a portable charger to it about every 3rd or 4th trip or before a tournament. Next boat will definatly have 1 charger for all 3 or 4 batteries.
