I have no idea on where is the best place. Several years ago when the starter went out on my 70 hp Johnson I had it rebuilt at a local starter/alternator shop. If my memory is correct the rebuild was less than 1/2 price of new.

If the armature is in good shape, I know a good rebuilder that will make it like new. What's it doing? just dragging, may only need new brushes and bushings and be like new for just a few bucks. Let me know if I can help.

hey mike i took it to thackers in Rome this morning and he said the end plate that holds the bushings was broke and he tried to find a used one but had no luck, he said he could have me a new starter in the morning [arco] for about the same price that i have found them online so i just ordered a new one, i will be back on the water by tomorrow afternoon. thanks oldfishinfool
