    Bathtub re-do or re-place?

I have a cast iron tub that we want to make bright white. It has glass shower doors currently. Do I try a DIY tub kit, or replace with a new system?? I have easy access to plumbing, drain, water connections. My only issue is the 32" bathroom door. I am limited to what will fit through it if I replace.

I have never seen a tub last more than 2 years after it has been reglazed. A client wanted me to reglaze her tub with the DIY kit but I wouldnt do it because I didnt want to be responsible when it started to peel.

A tub will fit though the door no problem. Turn it on it's side. Tubs are usually 23" or so high.
The new tub are fiberglass, durable and light. The hardest part of your job is getting the old tub out. HEAVY. What you can do is cover it with a few drop cloths and try using a sledge hammer to break the tub up.

Thanks for the input. I was in fear that it would look great for a short time only. My biggest issue is getting the old one out. Heavy tarps and a good sledge may do the trick from the way you describe it so when it is time for this project Ill probably go that route. Wife is ready for a bathroom re-do

When you get your heavy sledge...get a bigger one. Swing the hell out of it. I really couldn't believe how much ass it took to bust one of mine apart when I replaced it. Holy crap was that good for anger management...except when I realized I needed a bigger hammer. Hardest part is getting the first hole in it. Then work from there.

I had a fiberglass tub repainted over 5 years ago and it has held up extremely well. Guaranteed for 5 years on the finish. I paid about $600 for the work and outside of the fumes and some overspray, much better than removing and replacing a cast iron tub. I'm in massachusetts so I can't say if the company operates in your state or is franchised in your state, but the name is Bath Genie.
