    2008 250 HO problems

I had 3 pistons go out in a 2 month period. Instead of BRP saying it was a problem, they kept sending me more pistons. Now the whole engine blew and their replacing the whole powerhead. Why wouldnt they just say there's a problem in the begining and fix it? I've been off the water for over 2 weeks each time? I have a 250 HO 2008?

Not knowing the whole story in your case, and only hearing one side of it, I'll go out on a limb and say that most of the time, multiple powerhead problems are caused by the boat's fuel system. Most likely there are air leaks causing aerated fuel which makes a motor run lean or there is a fuel restriction that also makes a motor run lean. Both these items should be checked whenever there is a powerhead problem.

Has the dealer water tested the boat with the fuel diagnostic gauges attached? Were the affected cylinders given a new injector(s).

Things like multiple overheating occurances and over propping or poor fuel are (or should be} obvious and corrected right away.

What is the motor serial number?

Lot of parts are replaced via engine reports sent in by the dealers.

Never had any engine trouble. Enjectors kept going out. First one then another then another. Then after the third one the whole engine blew. Called Evinrude and they said they had a recall on some enjectors. My questions is, Why didnt they say that in the first place. Seems like they waited until each one blew out. Im a tournament fisherman and each time I missed 2 or 3 tournaments. Just wanted them to be up front!

I have seen an injector cut in two that had failed. Laser welds take a little work to cut! This failed injector had a fine black mist on the screen in front of the injector. A number of injectors various blocks had similar findings where this work was done.

    Final conclusion of the shop?

Likely plasticizer and ethanol dont mix well. Plastic ring inside the injector had its surface being broken down to a mist and then injected.

I know its a TALL order in Cali but if there is any way to avoid ethanol I would.

I have a chemical engineering degree and have discussed ethanol with an ethanol researcher from MIT in regards to this finding.

Certainly Seahorse and Championman do this for a living and I as a physician dont like folks butting in when they dont have any experience but I have since made extreme efforts- driving some distance- to avoid the stuff after seeing that injector.

I fish quite a few tournaments also and put about 120-130 hours a so on mine a year. I know its a pain but if you can avoid or stabilize the stuff I would. Although the guy from MIT wasnt too sure the stabilization product would prevent the plasticizer coming off-

Did you mean injectors instead of pistons? Do you have a serial number?
