    2000 Johnson 150 carb'd

I have been having some issues that started at the end of summer last year. Initially at WOT the boat would severly surge (run good then drop out the pick up and drop out). After trying several things I took the boat to the shop where a faulty fuel pump was replaced. Since then I cannot get the boat up to the proper rpm. Additionally starting at 45k I get like a minor surge or perhaps a miss @ WOT fully trimmed. This motor is running with the same prop config as when new 14 1/2 X 24 3 blade raker. I also have a 4 blade 14 1/2 X 23 (unk make). With full tank of gas and me with limited tackle it would turn around 5k @ 60mph. Last week I had a jackplate installed. Set the height to 2 1/2 below, and now turns 52k rpm. Any ideas what is wrong? Compression is good @ 195 per cyl (X6) Hot foot operation - all ports opening correctly. Help would be greatly appreciated.

195 psi? Dang you have shaved heads? Sounds like you may have an electrical issue. Have the stator output tested, inspect the top of the power head around the coil area for pooling of melted plastic.

Problem found and resolved. A friend of mine was telling me about another friend that discovered he had some bad fuel line. This made me take a look at mine. Even though the fuel line felt extremely hard it didn't look bad. Even when I would pull the lines at the fuel bulb the inside appeared ok. This time I checked and saw some little bits of black in the excess fuel in the bulb. Replaced fuel lines and the problem is now history. What I did note was the fuel line is supposed to be 3/8 ID. What I found that even though it looked ok inside the dia had actually shrunk to a tight 5/16.
