    2000 225 FICHT, Thoughts?

    First time poster.

I'm looking at a Ranger that has a 2000 225 FICHT on it. The current owner says the motor runs very well with no issues. He did have the powerhead replaced in 07'.

The info on the motor is -
    Model: E225FPLSSC
    SN: G04815356
    MFG Date: 12/1999

One of my fishing partners ran a 2000 150hp FICHT with no issues, claiming it was a fantastic engine. I just get worried reading some of the horror stories.

Any thoughts on this? Am I nuts thinking about buying a 10yr old high HP FICHT engine?

    Thanks in advance

I have a 2000 225 Ficht w/ over 300 hrs. & its been a great motor. I bought it used & got a computer readout & compression check on all holes. Have the motor checked by a Tech. that knows the motors & get all service & updates and you should be good to go.Just keep in mind, they all go boom sometime its just when.If you get it , you will find a wealth of Excellant information on how to keep it going strong from the mods & visitors to this site. Good luck with yourchoice.

from what I've read the early 150,175 were the biggest flops, the big blocks seam to do as good as any brand of motor, I've had no major problems with mine and close to 400 hours. I think the life of the motor is to service them regular, and a decarb on a regular basis.

An older FICHT like that has no retail value by itself. Just call any dealer and ask what a trade in for one is. If you can buy the boat and trailer for what they're worth and have them include the motor for free, then you may have a good deal. Have it checked over first.

Three letters......EMM! I decided to have mine rebuilt for $865 and if anything else happens to it, it'll become target practice for my 7mm. I was Leary of buyig my boat last year b/c of the ficht but it was owned by an omc master tech who took care of it.

    Quick update.

I still haven’t decided what to do yet. I did go look at the boat/motor and cosmetically it appears in awesome shape.

The seller had the printouts from the motor and just had it gone through at the local evinrude/ranger dealer.

Engine has 540hrs on it and all 6cyl have between 120-132psi.

If it was going to blow, would have it done it by now?

Also, I read so much about the EMM overheating and frying. Is this due to a design flaw or plugging up the water flow etc?

    Thanks,

If the price is right and the boat is as nice as you say, then get it. Most motors that are 10 years old aren't going to have much resale value anyway. Who knows, it may run fine for you for years since it has a newer powerhead. If the price is right, you can always repower it if something happens. Just my opinion..

OMC cheaped out on some of the componets in the EMM, thereby having problems with failures. Overheat on the engine don't help matters either.....
