Evinrude professional walleye anglers took a
sweep of FLW’s Walleye Championship event this weekend in Walker, Minnesota. Evinrude
anglers captured seven out of the top ten positions at the Championship event and this
victory is the 8th consecutive win for Evinrude team members. In addition, all three Angler of
the Year awards went to Evinrude team members with Chisago City, Minnesota native, Chris
Gilman, capturing the championship tournament title. Meleen, 2010 Angler of the Year,
finished in 4th place.
The three Angler of the Year awards went to Evinrude anglers – Bill Shimota for the Western
Division, Tom Keenan for the Eastern Division and as announced last month, Paul Meleen
captured the overall Angler of the Year title. Paul, an Isle, Minnesota native, received the
award with 818 points over six qualifying events, after fishing the required Eastern and
Western divisions on the FLW Walleye Tour. Bill Shimota tied in the points race for his
division, but accumulated more weight during the season to earn the title. Keenan secured
the Eastern Division win with 421 points over three events. Keenan was the 2006 Angler of
the Year. The Angler of the Year is determined by the total accumulated points from all six
regular season events.
