Hey Everyone,

Just inherited a 1979 Tuffy 154 with a 1992 Johnson 30hp electric start outboard.

I have a few issues with the motor which I need some advice.

The motor smokes a lot out of the shaft, especially at idle and seems to lesson at speed.....when going back to idle is smokes heavy again.

When starting the motor sometimes makes a weird pitch noise like it doesn't have enough power although the battery has been check, the plugs have been checked.

And lastly, when accelerating the motor sometimes will rev real high but I get no speed from the boat.

And at other times the boat runs just fine. This motor does have the long shaft and I sometimes will fish a lake that is no deeper then 3 feet. Could this be the root cause of my issues?
